St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church
Organized in 1874, St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church was established to serve the growing German Lutheran community around Steeleville.  The new congregation grew rapidly.  The current sanctuary was built in 1897, and enlarged in 1922.  Today, St. Mark's has around 1200 baptized members and continues to meet the spiritual needs of the Steeleville community 134 years after its founding.

St. Mark's Lutheran School
St. Mark's Lutheran School was organized in 1878.  By 1928 a new school building was needed to meet the needs of growing enrollment, so the current three story building was constructed at 504 North James Street in Steeleville.  As enrollment continued to increase, another addition was made in 1960 (which included a gymnasium).  The school complex has been updated several times since then, including the recent addition of a computer lab.  Over 130 years after the school's founding, St. Mark's continues to meet and exceed the educational needs of about 160 students in and around the Steeleville area.
